My Existential Thoughts on Blogging

Well, it’s my first time as a blogger.  Doesn’t “blogger” sound like some kind of derogatory term?  I hope it’s not because I am one now.  Of course it’s a coined term created by shortening the word, weblog, and is usually associated with someone who is “hip,” or “current,” but I’m pretty sure I am not either.  I’m just plain ol’ me.

I just realized something: We are such an instant gratification seeking society that now we not only have to get our information immediately but we have to give our thoughts and opinions immediately.  As if we actually have something intelligent or worthy to say.  I’m quite sure I don’t.  Isn’t that just like my generation.  So post-modern, so gen-x that I sit here insulting and condemning the very medium I am using to voice my opinion about it.  I can’t even be original in how I hurl my abuses.  No originality.

It’s so interesting to me that although I really have absolutely nothing to say and this post is completely devoid of anything inteligable, here I am wasting my time, your time, and space on the web.  That’s another great thing about technology.  I am able to bog you down (or should I say, “blog you down” for the sake of trendiness) with my pointless musings.  And although you’re not forced to endure it, the possiblity is there for me to take up the time of millions of readers around the world.  The humanity!!!

I bet, even now, in the midst of this philosophical quandary, as you and I drudge through this deep pursuit of the purpose and advantages (if any) of blogging, the question arises in your head, “Is this guy, or is he not, serious?  Or is he just rambling on only because he has nothing better to do?”  Good question.  I may very well love this whole “blogging” phenomenon and think it’s the best thing since sliced bread (what was it before sliced bread?).  My whole post could be one big farce, and not represent any kind of true opinion.  Or I could love it and hate it all at the same time, or even worse, love to hate it, creating one big cosmic contradiction causing such a paradox that the world as we know it may cease to exist.  Earth could be something which future life forms only look back on and blog about.  Proving once and for all that though the world itself will pass away into oblivion, blogging will remain forever.  And that is why I think blogging is such a great thing!  Everyone should do it.
